More detailed information will be needed on the relationship between maximal aerobic capacity and running economy and the influence of body size, anthropometry and running form on thermoregulation, running economy and fuel use. “Intelligent training” methods involving linking the very latest genetic technologies to training aids such as accelerometry, GPS and heart rate monitoring will also need to be developed.
